The Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Program, operating under the Department of Plant and Animal Production at Altınoluk Vocational School, began its educational activities in 2008 under the umbrella of Balıkesir University. The program was initially opened in 2008 with a daytime education format, and an evening education program was introduced in 2009. However, the evening program was closed in 2018, and the program currently continues only with daytime education, admitting 40 students each year.

The primary objective of the program is to train qualified intermediate professionals who can work in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants, which play an important role in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and dye industries. Students are provided with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the biological, ecological, genetic, and systematic characteristics of these plants; their collection from the wild; cultivation practices; conservation methods; chemical constituents; analytical techniques; production processes; quality control procedures; areas of use; and professional ethics.

With a strong emphasis on practical training, the program enables students to gain sector-oriented knowledge and hands-on experience. Upon graduation, students acquire the necessary qualifications to be employed in public institutions and private sector organizations operating in the fields of agriculture and industrial plants.
